The mission of the Juvenile Division is a balanced approach that advocates public protection, offender accountability and youth competency development (youth asset development). Our goal is to intervene in a manner most likely to cause positive behavioral change in the shortest possible time, using the least restrictive sanctions that will bring about the change. |

The Illinois Child Curfew
Act applies to kids 16 years old or younger who are out late without
adult supervision. That law makes it illegal for anyone 16 or under to
be out after midnight on Friday and Saturday, and after 11:00 p.m. on
the other days of the week. The curfew lifts at 6:00 a.m. To be
precise, the law sets the prohibited hours between 12:01 a.m. and 6:00
a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday
through Thursday.
In addition to this state
law, McCook has its own curfew ordinance, this local ordinance is more restrictive.
It is unlawful for any person less than eighteen (18) years of age to be
present at or upon any public assembly, building place, street or
highway in the Village at the following times, unless accompanied and
supervised by a parent or legal guardian or unless engaged in a business
or occupation which the laws of the State of Illinois authorize a person
less than eighteen (18) years of age to perform: The only defense to a curfew violation fine is being out with an adult, or being out for employment. Since the child labor laws prohibit kids under 16 to be employed after 7 p.m. only 16 year olds can claim the employment defense. Also, 16 year olds caught driving in violation of the curfew laws can have their driver’s licenses suspended for 60 days. Your license isn’t valid if you’re violating the curfew law.
